After days of getting stuck behind trucks and little old ladies during peak hour, I have devised a couple of ordinances that, if passed, will contribute to the greater efficiency of the state (you listening, Iemma?).
- Ordinance: Trucks and vans can only be on NSW roads between the hours of 10am to 2pm on weekdays, 8pm to 6am from Mondays to Thursdays, and 7am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays . Any trucks and vans found driving down NSW roads outside of these times will result in instant grounding and a hefty fine. The next time they will be allowed to move will be the next allowed time slot. As you can see, this will cut down on traffic significantly during peak hour and times when young people will be driving to and from social functions. You might think that this will negatively impact on deliveries of food, beverages, household goods, industrial parts etc. to retail stores, manufacturing plants and so on. But note that this ordinance is only effective in NSW so deliveries to the state from other states will be unaffected. However, this compels distribution and delivery companies operating within the state to come up with more efficient ways of transporting their deliveries on time and with minimal intrusion on the lives of everyone else.
- Ordinance: The elderly should stick to the speed limit. If they are unable to do so, rather than brand them pariahs, they will merely be compelled to only drive on the day of the week named after them anyway - Sunday! Sunday drivers will not be abused for opting to drive on Sundays only. In fact they will be celebrated for their consideraton towards others in deciding not to the hinder the progress of other citizens who can go above 30kmh. Although I have highlighted the elderly as the main offenders, this ordinance extends to anyone who has an old person's mentality behind the wheel of their vehicle.
If anyone can think of more ordinances that will improve our way of life in NSW, speak up. I'm listening . . . .
